Delhi Government to Offer ₹36,000 Subsidy on Electric Two-Wheelers for Women: Check Full Details
The Delhi government is planning a major benefit for women buyers of electric two-wheelers. As part of the upcoming Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0, the government aims to offer a subsidy of up to ₹36,000 to promote EV adoption among women. This initiative follows the launch of the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana and the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Delhi.
Let’s explore who can apply for the scheme, how to get the subsidy, and what document is essential to claim the benefit.
What Is Delhi’s New EV Policy for Women?
The Delhi EV Policy 2.0 is expected to be launched soon. As per the proposed draft, women purchasing electric two-wheelers will get a special subsidy of ₹36,000. This is a major step towards encouraging eco-friendly mobility while supporting women empowerment.
Earlier, under the Delhi EV Policy 2020, buyers received up to ₹30,000 as a subsidy for electric scooters. Additionally, a scrapping incentive of ₹5,000 was also provided for old two-wheelers. Although the earlier policy expired on 31 March, the government has extended it for a short period while finalising the new version.
Who Will Receive the ₹36,000 Subsidy?
As per the draft proposal, the first 10,000 women who purchase electric two-wheelers under the new policy will be eligible for the full ₹36,000 subsidy. This offer is limited to early applicants, so those interested are advised to be ready once the policy is announced.
What Documents Are Required to Get the ₹36,000 Subsidy?
To claim the subsidy, women must have a valid driving licence in their own name. The government has made it clear that the benefit cannot be claimed if a male family member buys the scooter in a woman’s name.
In addition, women must also have a Delhi-based Aadhaar card. Without these documents, applicants will not be able to apply for the scheme.
How Will Women Get the EV Subsidy in Delhi?
If the proposal is approved, the subsidy process will remain similar to the existing EV policy. The dealer from whom the two-wheeler is purchased will submit the application on behalf of the buyer using their official user ID and password.
Women will be required to provide:
-
Their bank account details (like IFSC code, branch name, account number)
-
Supporting identity documents like driving licence and Aadhaar card
Once the documents are verified and the request is processed, the subsidy will be credited directly to the woman’s bank account.
Why Is the Delhi Government Introducing This Policy?
The policy is aimed at:
-
Promoting the use of electric vehicles
-
Encouraging women to opt for sustainable mobility options
-
Offering financial support to female buyers
-
Reducing pollution levels in the national capital
This is part of Delhi’s larger plan to boost EV adoption, make the city greener, and provide equal opportunities for women in the mobility sector.
The proposed ₹36,000 subsidy for women under Delhi EV Policy 2.0 is a major initiative to make electric vehicles more accessible and affordable. Women interested in buying an EV scooter should keep their driving licence and Aadhaar card ready to benefit from the scheme as soon as it is launched.
