The one-year program is designed to train teachers, educators, school administrators, and untrained guidance personnel to address the academic, social, and emotional needs of students.
The course, offered through a blend of distance learning, face-to-face training, and internship, will run from January to December 2026. Applications are open until November 5, 2025, and candidates must apply online through the official NCERT portal.
Why has NCERT launched this diploma?
The diploma responds to the growing challenges in schools, including low academic interest, behavioural problems, truancy, and stress-related issues. The course aims to equip teachers with professional counselling skills, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises mental health support and holistic student development.
What is the structure of the NCERT Diploma 2026?
The one-year diploma will be offered in three structured phases:
- Six months of distance learning (January – June 2026) with self-learning materials, tutorials, and mentor support.
- Three months of intensive face-to-face practicum (July – September 2026) at designated study centres, focusing on supervised training.
- Three months of internship (October – December 2026) in schools or guidance institutions at the candidate’s home town/workplace.
Both Hindi and English will be used as mediums of instruction.
Who can apply for the NCERT Diploma 2026?
The course is open to:
- In-service teachers with a graduate degree and teaching qualification.
- Candidates not currently working but holding a graduate degree with teaching qualification and two years of experience.
- Postgraduates in psychology, education, social work, child development, or special education.
Applicants must have at least 50% marks (5% relaxation for SC/ST).
How many seats are available and where are the centres?
Each study centre will admit a maximum of 50 candidates, with reservation as per Government of India norms. The course will be offered at:
- NCERT, New Delhi (DEPFE)
- Regional Institutes of Education at Ajmer, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Mysuru, and Shillong
What is the admission process?
- Eligible candidates must submit applications online only.
- Shortlisted applicants will undergo a selection test including essay writing and interview.
- In-service candidates must secure prior permission from their employers to attend the face-to-face component.
- NCERT’s decision will be final regarding admissions.
How much is the course fee?
- Government deputed (Centrally funded organisations): ₹19,500
- Government deputed (State/UT departments): ₹6,000
- Private candidates: ₹30,000
Candidates must also bear the cost of boarding and lodging during the face-to-face phase. Facilities will be available for non-local participants.
