NCERT launches a five-day online AI training for school teachers to promote ethical, learner-centric education aligned with NEP 2020
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), through its Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), has launched a five-day online training programme to strengthen the effective use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in school education. The initiative aligns closely with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and aims to support teachers and school leaders across the country.
Helping Teachers Use AI Meaningfully in Classrooms
The training programme equips teachers and educational leaders with practical knowledge on how AI can support personalised learning, improve assessment practices, and increase student engagement. Rather than replacing teachers, AI tools are positioned as supportive resources that enhance teaching effectiveness and classroom interaction.
NEP 2020 Vision Drives Responsible Use of Technology
This initiative reflects NEP 2020’s strong focus on the responsible use of emerging technologies to improve access, equity, quality, and learning outcomes in schools. NCERT emphasises that AI should be used carefully and ethically to support data-driven decision-making while ensuring fairness and inclusion for all learners.
AI as a Support Tool, Not a Substitute for Teachers
According to NCERT, AI should act as an assistive technology that strengthens teachers’ instructional capacity. The programme reinforces the idea that the human element of teaching remains central, with AI serving as a tool to support better planning, monitoring, and student support.
Focus on Learner-Centric and Inclusive Teaching Practices
Aligned with the National Curriculum Framework for the Foundational Stage (NCF-FS) and the School Education stage (NCF-SE), the training highlights capacity-based and learner-centred pedagogical approaches. Teachers will explore AI-powered tools such as smart tutors, adaptive learning platforms, automated assessments, and educational chatbots to better understand students’ diverse needs and promote active classroom participation.
Training Dates, Languages, and Session Timings
The five-hour online training series, titled “Effective Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the Transformation of School Education,” will be conducted in two language formats. The English sessions will run from January 19 to January 23, 2026, followed by the Hindi sessions from January 26 to January 30, 2026. Each session will take place daily from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Clear Learning Objectives and Ethical Focus
The programme aims to build basic AI literacy among teachers and school leaders, familiarise them with policy frameworks and governance models, and promote practical classroom strategies for personalised and interactive learning. It also places strong emphasis on ethical issues such as data privacy, transparency, fairness, inclusion, and student well-being.
Structured Five-Day Learning Schedule
The training schedule begins with an introduction to core AI concepts and working mechanisms. It then moves on to policy and administrative frameworks for AI integration in schools. Later sessions focus on AI-based classroom practices, effective curricular integration, and the ethical, safe, and responsible use of AI in education. Experts from institutions such as IIIT Allahabad and the University of Delhi will lead the sessions.
Academic Leadership and Programme Coordination
Senior academics and officials from CIET-NCERT are guiding the programme. Professor Amarendra Pr. Behera, Joint Director and Head of PRD, serves as the Programme Advisor, along with Professor Indu Kumar, Head of DICT and TD. Experienced faculty members and educational advisors from CIET are handling academic and technical coordination to ensure smooth delivery of the training.
Participation in the programme requires prior registration through an online form. After attending the sessions, participants who wish to receive a certificate must complete an online course hosted on the DIKSHA platform, watch all five videos, and attempt the final assessment.
A minimum score of 70 percent is required to qualify for certification, which will be issued digitally through the DIKSHA profile. The online course will remain open until March 15, 2026.
NCERT has also encouraged participants to submit feedback after completing the training, stating that responses will be used to further strengthen future virtual professional development programmes.
For further information or assistance, participants may contact the CIET training helpdesk via email or phone, as provided in the official notice.
This initiative marks another step in India’s broader effort to modernise school education through thoughtful and responsible use of emerging technologies, while keeping teachers at the centre of the learning process.
