CBSE Board Exams 2026: March 3 Exams for Class 10, 12 Postponed; Revised Dates Announced

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has postponed a few Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations that were scheduled for March 3, 2026. The board took this decision for administrative reasons and clarified that the change applies only to exams fixed on that date.

Through an official circular dated December 29, 2025, CBSE informed principals of all affiliated schools about the revised dates. The board clearly stated that it will conduct all other examinations according to the original timetable, with no additional changes.

For Class 10, CBSE postponed several regional and foreign language papers, along with academic elective subjects. The affected language papers include Tibetan, Bhoti, Bhutia, Bodo, Tangkhul, Mizo, Kashmiri, German, Japanese, Spanish and Bahasa Melayu.

CBSE offers these subjects to encourage regional identity, linguistic diversity and global communication skills among students.

CBSE also rescheduled Academic Electives (Group-A2), including National Cadet Corps (NCC) and Elements of Book Keeping and Accountancy. NCC trains students in discipline, leadership and social responsibility, while Book Keeping and Accountancy introduces students to basic commerce concepts. CBSE will now conduct all these Class 10 papers on March 11, 2026, instead of March 3.

The change also covers other Class 10 subjects originally fixed for the same day, such as Limboo, Lepcha and Carnatic Music (Vocal). Students enrolled in these subjects will appear for their exams on the revised date.

For Class 12, CBSE postponed only one paper. The board shifted the Legal Studies examination from March 3 to April 10, 2026. CBSE clarified that administrative factors alone led to the longer gap and that the decision has no connection with the subject content or syllabus.

Controller of Examinations Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj, while addressing school heads, confirmed that the rescheduling applies only to the March 3 examinations. He reiterated that CBSE has not altered any other exam dates.

CBSE also confirmed that it will print the revised dates on students’ admit cards. The board directed schools to update their internal date sheets to ensure clear communication and avoid confusion.
