The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has released a special module on Operation Sindoor for students of classes 3 to 12. On 22 April 2025, 26 innocent people were killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The NCERT module clearly states that even though Pakistan has been denying its role in this attack, the attack took place on the orders of its army and political leadership.

Name and significance of Operation Sindoor

India’s retaliation

On 7 May 2025, India carried out missile and air strikes on terrorist bases in Pakistan and PoJK. In this operation that lasted for 22 minutes, 9 targets were selected and destroyed. Of these, 7 were targeted by the Army and 2 (Muridke and Bahawalpur) by the Air Force. The special thing was that no civilian was harmed in this attack.

In response, Pakistan tried drone and airbase attack, but India’s air defense system (S-400, Akash, MRSAM) foiled all the attacks.

Strength and technology of the Indian Army

Fighter aircraft like Rafale, Sukhoi-30MKI and Mirage-2000 were used in this operation. 10 satellites of ISRO provided real-time information. Brahmos and Akash missiles made with Make in India technology, smart artillery and Indian drones (Hawk, Scout, Eagle) were also included.

Students will read the heroic saga of ‘Operation Sindoor’ in NCERT books, special modules are being prepared for classes 3 to 12

Recently, NCERT has released several new textbooks with added chapters. Along with this, NCERT is also developing a special classroom module on “Operation Sindoor” to help students understand India’s defence strategy and diplomatic response. Sources have said that this module will be included in school books.

It will have two parts — one for students of Classes 3 to 8 and another for Classes 9 to 12. The special module, prepared by NCERT, will include 8 to 10 pages focusing on India’s strategic military response to the Pahalgam terror attack. According to officials, the aim is to explain to students how a nation responds to terrorist threats, and how defence, diplomacy, and coordination between ministries play a key role in national security.
