UP Students to Get National Certificate with Daily 1.5-Hour Skill Training — Big Update in Skill Development Mission

UP Schools Launch Career-Ready Skill Mission: Govt to Offer National Certificate with Daily Training!

The Uttar Pradesh government has introduced a major shift in the UP Skill Development Mission, aiming to make vocational training in secondary schools more structured, transparent, and career-oriented. Under the new format, students will now receive a national-level certificate after completing a 400 to 450-hour certified course, with 1.5 hours of daily training made mandatory.

Let’s take a closer look at the latest updates, what changes students can expect, and how it will impact their future opportunities.

What Is the New Format for Skill Training in UP Schools?

Under the revamped UP Skill Development Mission, the state is rolling out structured training through Project Praveen in 650 government secondary schools. The programme now requires students to undergo 400 to 450 hours of skill training throughout the academic year, with daily sessions of 1.5 hours being compulsory.

Training will be provided in key sectors such as IT & Electronics and Automobile, among others. In a move towards digital transparency, students’ certificates will be securely stored in their Digital Locker and linked to their APAR ID (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry). This will allow for easy and official online verification of their credentials.

What Kind of Certificate Will Students Receive?

Students completing the training will be awarded a national-level certificate that aligns with the standards of the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT). These certificates will be:

  • Recognised across India

  • Digitally secured in the student’s Digital Locker

  • Linked to their Academic Credit Bank and APAR ID

This ensures that students can use these certificates not only for higher education but also for job opportunities across India, making their training truly future-ready.

How Is the Quality of the Training Programme Being Monitored?

To maintain high standards, the government is implementing a stronger monitoring mechanism. All participating schools have been integrated with the Skill Development Mission portal. Each school must appoint and register a nodal teacher, whose activities will be tracked online.

Training agencies have also been instructed to follow strict guidelines and deliver high-quality vocational training. Updated programme guidelines are now in place to ensure better compliance and learning outcomes. As per Dr Hariom, Principal Secretary of Vocational Education, the government is placing strong emphasis on transparency, accountability, and quality. In fact, more than 26,000 students have already registered for training in just the past month.

Why Is the UP Government Focusing on Skill Training in Schools?

The main objective of the mission is to provide practical, job-oriented skills to school students early in their education. By integrating vocational training directly into the school curriculum, the UP government aims to:

  • Improve employability

  • Support entrepreneurship

  • Equip students for real-world challenges

With certified skills, digitally verified credentials, and nationwide recognition, students are better prepared to explore career opportunities or continue with higher education in skill-based fields. This initiative marks a significant step towards building a skilled and self-reliant youth population in the state.
