PM Modi Launches ₹1,400 Cr Innovation Push at YUGM 2025, Boosts AI, NEP & Youth Reforms 2/2

New Delhi. April 29, 2025 – The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today addressed the YUGM Innovation Conclave at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, he highlighted the country’s education system, innovation culture, and the major steps being taken by the government to make the youth self-reliant. He described the conference as a historic effort where the coming together of heads of government, academia, and industry was seen as “YUGM” – a confluence.

The Prime Minister said that it is the endeavour of the government to give such skills to the youth so that they can become self-reliant and establish India as a global innovation hub.

He also said that the education system is being modernised as per the requirements of the 21st century. Referring to the new National Education Policy (NEP), he said that the policy has been prepared keeping in mind the global standards and is promoting quality, equity, and innovation in education.

Referring to initiatives like ‘One Nation, One Subscription’, the Prime Minister said that this has given students easy access to world-class research journals. Digital education has been empowered through PM e-Vidya and DIKSHA platforms, on which textbooks are now being made available in more than 30 Indian languages and seven foreign languages.

He pointed out that India’s universities are now becoming centres of innovation, where the youth power is turning new ideas into technology. He also shared that while in 2014 only nine Indian institutions were included in the QS ranking, now in 2025 this number has increased to 46.

Praising the Wadhwani Foundation and its founder, Dr Romesh Wadhwani, the Prime Minister said that he has lived a life dedicated to India’s research and education sector despite struggles. His institution has made significant contributions to AI, health tech, agri-tech and school education.

He also informed that the setting up of the 50,000 crore National Research Foundation has further strengthened the culture of research in the country. The number of patent filings has increased from 40,000 in 2014 to more than 80,000 now, reflecting India’s innovation ecosystem.

The Prime Minister also spoke of technologies developed in India, such as the 422-metre Hyperloop test track built by IIT Madras, nanotechnology developed at IISc Bengaluru, and the country’s first indigenous MRI machine.”The Triveni of Talent, Temperament and Technology will change the future of India. “

He called for rapid research and development in areas like AI, Quantum Computing, Space Tech, Health Tech and Synthetic Biology. Under the policy of “Make AI in India and Make AI work for India,” AI Excellence Centers are being set up in the country.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Science Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, and other ministers were also present on the occasion. Pradhan informed that the foundation stone of new projects worth ₹1,400 crore has been laid, which will benefit ANRF, IITs, IISc, and innovators.

Two Superhubs will be set up at IIT Kanpur and IIT Bombay under the YUGM conference. A School of AI and Intelligent Systems will be built at IIT Kanpur at a cost of ₹500 crore, and a Biosciences and HealthTech Hub will be set up at IIT Bombay at a cost of ₹300 crore.
