NCERT Opens Registration for Five-Hour Online Training Programme on Digital Footprint
NCERT has issued an important update related to digital safety and digital literacy. The Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), NCERT, is organising a five-hour online training programme on “Digital Footprint” for students, teachers, parents, administrators, and all interested learners.
This training programme focuses on helping participants understand how everyday online activities leave lasting digital traces and why managing them responsibly has become essential in today’s digital world.
What Is a Digital Footprint and Why Does It Matter?
A digital footprint refers to the data trail created when people browse websites, use social media, attend online classes, or use mobile applications. These footprints can be active, such as posts or comments shared online, or passive, such as data collected automatically through cookies and tracking tools.
NCERT has highlighted that poorly managed digital footprints can lead to serious risks.
These include identity misuse, cyberstalking, reputational damage, and unauthorized use of personal data.
As schools increasingly use digital platforms for teaching, assessment, and communication, understanding digital footprints has become a core part of digital literacy.
How Do Digital Footprints Create Risks for Learners and Schools?
Cyber risks linked to oversharing on social media, unsafe online behaviour, weak privacy settings, and unverified applications are growing rapidly.
These risks affect not only individuals but also the credibility and safety of educational institutions.
Through this training, NCERT aims to:
- build awareness among educators and learners
- promote ethical and responsible online behaviour
- help institutions create safer digital learning environments
The programme also aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which strongly emphasizes digital literacy, cyber safety, and responsible technology use.
Which Institutions Are Involved in the Programme?
The training is being organised by CIET–NCERT, Government of India, in collaboration with CyberPeace. The initiative reflects NCERT’s commitment to preparing learners and teachers for safe and thoughtful engagement in digital spaces.
