Five-hour national programme aims to build awareness among teachers and learners as AI reshapes digital education
As Artificial Intelligence continues to expand its presence in classrooms and digital platforms, concerns around cyber safety, data privacy, and ethical technology use are growing rapidly. Responding to this need, the Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), NCERT, under the Government of India, has announced a free five-hour online training series titled “Cyber Safety in the Era of AI.”
The programme is designed to help educators, administrators, and learners understand cyber risks linked to AI and adopt safe, responsible digital practices in education.
Why Cyber Safety Matters More in the AI Age
AI tools now support teaching, assessment, communication, and content creation across schools and institutions.
However, this growing dependence also brings new challenges.
AI-driven systems can expose users to:
- Data misuse and privacy breaches
- AI-generated misinformation and deepfakes
- Identity theft and online fraud
- Automated cyberattacks
Limited awareness of how AI works and how data is processed can increase these risks.
As a result, cyber safety has become a key part of digital literacy in today’s education system.
How the Training Will Help Educators and Institutions
The online training aims to:
- Explain basic AI concepts in simple terms
- Highlight AI-enabled cyber threats in education
- Promote ethical and responsible AI use
- Strengthen data protection and digital identity safety
- Help teachers guide students towards safe online behaviour
The programme also aligns with the vision of NEP 2020, which stresses digital literacy, ethical technology use, and cyber safety as essential life skills.
