The Ministry of Defence has invited Indian citizens to participate in the Independence Day Celebration 2026 Essay Competition. The competition will run from 2 June 2026 to 15 July 2026 and will focus on the topic “Role of AI in Building a Viksit Bharat by 2047.”

The initiative aims to create awareness among youth and the general public about the role of Artificial Intelligence in achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047.

Essay Competition Theme

Participants must write an essay on the topic: “Role of AI in Building a Viksit Bharat by 2047”. The essay should explain the role of Artificial Intelligence in helping India become a developed nation by the year 2047.

Essay Word Limit

Participants must follow the prescribed word limit.

Essays that contain fewer than 500 words or more than 600 words will not be considered for evaluation.

Who Can Participate?

  • The competition is open to Indian citizens.
  • Participants can submit their essays in Hindi or English.
  • Each individual can participate only once.
  • Participants should submit their entry on only one platform, either MyGov or MyBharat.

Awards and Recognition

The top three winners will receive ₹15,000 each. The top 200 participants will receive an e-invitation to attend the Independence Day Celebration on 15 August 2026 at the Red Fort, Delhi. Each selected participant can bring one companion, such as a spouse, guardian or relative.

Important Instructions

Participants must provide a valid email address and mobile number while submitting their entry. The organisers will use these details for all future communication.

One mobile number and one email ID can be used for only one participant in the competition.

The essay must be original. Participants should not use copyrighted material. They must also submit the required undertaking regarding originality.

The organisers will reject entries that involve unfair practices such as impersonation or multiple submissions.

Employees directly or indirectly involved in organising the competition, along with their immediate family members, cannot participate.

Travel and Other Expenses

Participants selected to attend the Independence Day celebration must bear their own expenses for travel, accommodation and food.

However, selected participants can travel free on the Delhi Metro to and from the event by showing their e-invitation at any Delhi Metro station.

Winner Selection

A Screening Committee of the Ministry of Defence will evaluate all eligible essays. The committee will announce the winners after screening the entries. The decision of the Screening Committee will be final.
