Ministry of Defence (MoD) in Collaboration with Ministry of Education (MoE) to Launch Project Veer Gatha 6.0 During 2026-27
The Central Board of Secondary Education has announced Project Veer Gatha 6.0 for the academic year 2026-27. CBSE issued the announcement through Circular No. Acad-58/2026 dated 14 September 2026. The Ministry of Defence will conduct the project in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
Project Veer Gatha started in 2021. The project aims to share the stories of Gallantry Award winners with students. It also aims to build the spirit of patriotism and civic consciousness among students.

Students will create projects through different forms of art and expression. These forms include poems and essays. They also include paintings and drawings. Students can also create multimedia presentations and short videos.
Awareness programmes will reach schools
The Ministry of Defence will organise virtual and face-to-face awareness programmes for schools across the country. The Ministry will share the list of venues and timings for these programmes later.
Students will take part in different activities
Schools will conduct interdisciplinary and art-integrated activities under Veer Gatha 6.0.
Students can take part through the following formats:

Category 1 covers Grades 3 to 5
The Preparatory Stage covers students from Grade 3 to Grade 5. Students can submit a poem or paragraph of 150 words. They can also submit a painting or drawing.
The circular gives three suggested topics. Students can write about a Gallantry Award winner who inspires them. They can explain the values they learnt from that person’s life.
Students can also write about a Gallantry Award winner who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation. They can explain how they would keep that person’s memory alive.

Another topic asks students to write about the spirit and military strategies of Indian warriors. The circular names Prithviraj Chauhan. It also names King Kharavela of Kalinga and Shivaji. It also refers to the warriors of the 1857 Mutiny and Tribal Uprising.
Category 2 covers Grades 6 to 8
The Middle Stage covers students from Grade 6 to Grade 8. Students can submit a poem or paragraph of 300 words. They can also submit a painting or drawing.
The category also allows multimedia presentations and short videos. Students can use anchoring storytelling or reporting of war for their short videos.
Category 3 covers Grades 9 to 12
The Secondary Stage covers students from Grade 9 to Grade 12. Students can submit a poem or essay of 750 words. They can also submit a painting or drawing.
Students can also create multimedia presentations or short videos. The short videos can use anchoring storytelling or reporting of war.
Schools must complete key activities by October
CBSE has set 4 October 2026 as the first major deadline. Schools must organise interactions with Gallantry Award winners by this date if they conduct such interactions. Schools must also conduct and evaluate the activities at their own level.
From 5 October to 19 October 2026 schools must upload their selected entries on the MyGov portal.
Schools must upload four best entries
A regular school will upload one best entry from each category. Category 3 will have one entry for Grades 9 to 10 and one entry for Grades 11 to 12.
This means each school can upload a total of four entries.

Schools up to Grade 10 will submit one entry in each category. They can submit one additional entry in any category.
Schools up to Grade 8 will submit one entry in Category 1 and one entry in Category 2. They can submit two additional entries from these categories.
Schools up to Grade 5 will submit four entries from Category 1.
CBSE has asked schools not to wait for the final submission date. Schools can submit entries after they complete their activities and shortlist their best entries.
MyGov will host the submission portal
Schools will use a common MyGov portal to upload their entries. CBSE affiliated schools located abroad will also upload their entries online after completing evaluation at their school level.
Veer Gatha 6.0 will have winners at three levels
The project will recognise students at the National Level. It will also recognise students at the State and UT Level and the District Level.
At the National Level the project will select 100 winners under the Super 100 category.
Category 1 will have 25 winners. Category 2 will have 25 winners. Category 3 will have 50 winners. Category 3 will include 25 winners from Grades 9 to 10 and 25 winners from Grades 11 to 12.
The circular states that earlier national level Veer Gatha winners will not form part of the 100 national winners for Veer Gatha 6.0.
State and UT level will have eight winners
The State and UT level will select eight winners.
- Category 1 will have two winners.
- Category 2 will have two winners.
- Category 3 will have four winners.
Category 3 will include two winners from Grades 9 to 10 and two winners from Grades 11 to 12. The selection will apply irrespective of the board. Students selected in the Super 100 will not form part of this selection.
District level will have four winners
The District Level will select four winners.
- Category 1 will have one winner.
- Category 2 will have one winner.
- Category 3 will have two winners.
Category 3 will include one winner from Grades 9 to 10 and one winner from Grades 11 to 12. Students selected in the Super 100 or at State or UT level will not form part of this selection.
National winners will receive cash prizes
The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Defence will jointly felicitate the national level winners. The Ministry of Defence will give Rs. 10,000 as a cash prize to each national winner.
District and State or UT authorities will felicitate winners at their respective levels. The concerned authorities will decide the prize arrangements for these levels.

Schools are asked to create a Veer Gatha Corner
CBSE has asked schools to establish a dedicated Veer Gatha Corner.
The corner should focus on Gallantry Award winners and military traditions. It should also cover military strategies and wars or struggles of great warriors. Schools can also showcase student talent through this space.
CBSE has asked schools to share the information with students and encourage them to participate in Veer Gatha 6.0.
Evaluation will focus on originality and relevance
The circular includes separate evaluation rubrics for essays and paragraphs. It also includes rubrics for poems and multimedia presentations or short videos. A separate rubric covers paintings.
The essay and paragraph rubric gives a maximum score of 16 marks. It assesses originality of expression and presentation. It also assesses support and relevance to the topic.
The poem rubric also gives a maximum score of 16 marks. It assesses originality and presentation. It also assesses poetic devices and relevance to the topic.
The multimedia presentation and short video rubric gives a maximum score of 16 marks. It assesses originality and presentation. It also assesses dialogue and relevance to the topic.
The painting rubric gives a maximum score of 16 marks. It assesses originality and presentation. It also assesses technique and relevance to the topic.
The circular states that entries that do not remain relevant to the topic will receive no marks. It also states that an essay or paragraph that exceeds the word limit by 50 words or more will face a deduction of two marks from the final score.
