The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has invited applications from principals and teachers of CBSE-affiliated private schools for the PRERANA Programme in Vadnagar, Gujarat. The programme aims to inspire students through experiential learning based on Indian culture, values, and knowledge systems.
CBSE released the official circular on June 3, 2026, through its Training Unit and asked schools to encourage eligible teachers and principals to apply for the programme. The last date to submit nominations is June 10, 2026.
CBSE Opens Nominations for Director and Mentor Roles Under PRERANA Programme
The Ministry of Education launched the PRERANA Programme to provide students with a week-long immersive learning experience at the Vernacular School campus in Vadnagar, Gujarat. The programme focuses on experiential learning rooted in India’s rich cultural heritage and Indian knowledge systems.
CBSE has now invited applications for two important roles under the programme:
- Principals can apply for engagement as Directors
- Teachers can apply for engagement as Mentors
The board has shared separate application links for both categories and requested all CBSE-affiliated private schools to spread awareness among eligible staff members.
Eligibility Criteria for Principals and Teachers
CBSE stated that applicants should preferably be below 45 years of age.
For principals applying for the Director role, the board prefers candidates with at least five years of experience as Principal and experience in experiential classroom learning.
For teachers applying for the Mentor role, candidates should have at least five years of teaching experience for Classes 9 to 12 along with experience in activity-based experiential learning.
Applicants must also submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their parent school along with the application form.
PRERANA Programme Will Offer Temporary Engagement
CBSE clarified that the selection for both Director and Mentor roles will remain temporary and will not create any claim for permanent absorption in PRERANA or Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS).
The engagement period for Directors may remain around one to two years, while Mentors may serve for around six to ten months as mentioned in the engagement order.
Salary, Leave and Facilities for Selected Candidates
Selected Directors and Mentors will continue receiving their existing salary and allowances from their parent schools. PRERANA will also provide a special monthly allowance. Directors may receive a special allowance of ₹8,000 per month, while Mentors may receive ₹7,000 per month.
CBSE stated that selected candidates will receive boarding and lodging facilities during the programme period. However, the facility will apply only to the selected individual and not to family members.
The programme will also provide casual leave benefits and maintain service continuity, seniority, provident fund benefits, gratuity, medical insurance, and other service-related benefits through the parent school.
Responsibilities of Directors and Mentors
CBSE stated that Directors will work as the administrative heads of PRERANA under the Ministry of Education and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. They will manage programme implementation, training, student engagement, and administration.
Mentors will handle teaching, mentoring, training, documentation, and student engagement activities during the programme period. Check CBSE official circular
The board also stated that PRERANA authorities may review the performance of selected candidates regularly. Authorities may end the engagement early in cases related to discipline, non-performance, or administrative reasons.
CBSE Asks Schools to Encourage Eligible Staff
CBSE has requested all affiliated private schools to share the information with principals and teachers and encourage eligible candidates to apply for the PRERANA Programme before the June 10 deadline.
