The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released an important circular (No. CBSE/Coord/PRAC-REMINDER/2024/, Dated: 31.12.2024) regarding the conduct of Practical Examinations, Projects, and Internal Assessments for Classes X and XII for the academic session 2024-25. The practical exams are scheduled to be conducted from 1st January 2025 to 14th February 2025.
This notice highlights critical instructions that schools, students, and parents must adhere to for the smooth execution of practical exams.
What Are the Key Guidelines for Practical Examinations?
1. Adequate Preparation and Infrastructure
Schools must ensure they have received sufficient practical answer books. In case of discrepancies, they should contact their respective Regional Office.
Laboratories and necessary infrastructure should be ready with all required equipment and materials for conducting practical exams efficiently.
2. Communication with Parents and Students
Schools should inform parents and students about the schedule of practical exams in advance to ensure compliance with CBSE guidelines.
3. Involvement of Examiners
External examiners appointed by CBSE must be contacted on time to facilitate the practical exams. No alternate arrangements for external examiners are allowed.
Internal and external examiners must ensure that the marks awarded are solely based on the student’s performance.
4. Mark Uploading and Verification
Marks for practical exams must be uploaded on the same day of the exam. Once uploaded, no corrections in marks will be allowed.
Principals and examiners must verify that the marks align with the maximum marks assigned to each subject.
5. Inclusive Arrangements for CWSN Students
Schools must make adequate arrangements for Children with Special Needs (CWSN) so they can comfortably participate in practical exams.
6. Compliance with Stipulated Timeline
Practical examinations must be conducted strictly between 1st January 2025 and 14th February 2025. Any deviations from the schedule will not be entertained by CBSE.
7. Guidelines for National-Level Sports Participants
Students participating in national or international sports events are not exempt from appearing in practical exams. Separate practical exams will not be conducted for them.
Strict Monitoring and Compliance
CBSE has warned that failure to comply with the guidelines could lead to the cancellation of the practical examinations conducted by the school. Schools must also ensure that practical exams are conducted only with the external examiners appointed by CBSE. Any assessments conducted by unauthorized examiners will be considered null and void.
Important Timeline
- Practical Exam Period: 1st January 2025 to 14th February 2025
- Mark Upload Deadline: Same day as the assessment
Schools are advised to follow up internally with Vice Principals or Coordinators to ensure timely execution and completion of the practical exams.
