CBSE has released the Secondary School Examination 2026 schedule, with exams starting from 15 May 2026 and covering multiple subjects across different dates and timings.
CBSE has officially released the datesheet for Class 10 second board examinations 2026. The board will conduct these exams from 15 May to 21 May 2026. This second phase gives students an opportunity to improve their scores or clear subjects after the first board exam.
Exams to begin with Mathematics
CBSE will start the examination cycle with Mathematics (Standard and Basic) on 15 May. The board will conduct the English (Communicative) and English (Language and Literature) exams on 16 May.
Science and language papers schedule
CBSE will hold the Science exam on 18 May. On 19 May, students will appear for multiple language and elective subjects, including Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, and several foreign languages. The board has also scheduled Home Science and some vocational subjects on the same day.
Final exam sequence
CBSE will conduct subjects like Sanskrit, Painting, Information Technology, and Artificial Intelligence on 20 May. The board will conclude the examination with Social Science on 21 May.
Second exam gives improvement chance
CBSE has introduced a two-exam system from 2026. The first board exam, held in February, remains mandatory. The second exam in May remains optional and allows students to improve their performance or pass failed subjects.
Students can choose up to three subjects
Students can appear in up to three subjects in the second examination. CBSE will consider the best score between both attempts, which gives students flexibility and reduces exam pressure.
Important update for students
CBSE released this datesheet shortly after declaring the Class 10 first exam results. Students who want to improve their marks should prepare according to the schedule and use this opportunity wisely.

Who can appear for CBSE Class 10 second board exam 2026?
CBSE has clearly defined the eligibility rules for students who want to appear in the second board exam. Students who appeared in at least three subjects in the first board exam can apply. Students who have already passed Class 10 but want to improve their marks in up to three subjects can also appear.
The board also allows students in the compartment category, including those from the 2025 compartment batch. Students who passed through subject replacement, sports students with prior CBSE permission, and students under UFM Category 1 can also take the exam if they meet eligibility conditions.
However, students who did not appear in at least three subjects in the first exam and those placed in the ER category cannot appear. Students must remember that they can improve marks only in Science, Mathematics, Social Science, and Languages, and they can choose a maximum of three subjects.
Key highlights students should know
CBSE will conduct the exams in offline pen-and-paper mode. The board has included a wide range of language and skill-based subjects in the schedule. Students must follow all CBSE guidelines while entering the examination centre and carry their admit cards issued by their schools. These instructions are important to ensure a smooth examination process.
When will CBSE declare the results?
CBSE usually declares Class 10 results within four to six weeks after exams conclude. For the second board exams, students can expect results around June 2026, although CBSE has not officially confirmed the exact date yet.
Date_Sheet_2nd_Board_Exam_X_2026_23042026-1The board has maintained a strong pass percentage in recent years, and the second exam system will likely improve results further. CBSE will consider the best score between the main exam and the second exam as final.
Why the second board exam is important
The second board exam system brings a major change in the evaluation process. It gives students a chance to improve marks without losing an academic year. It reduces pressure during the main exam and offers more flexibility in learning. Education experts believe this system supports better performance and aligns with modern global education practices.
