CBSE promotes Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya, a free digital library with 5,500+ books in 23 languages to boost joyful reading in schools.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has informed all its affiliated schools about the launch of Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya (ReP), a free national digital library for students.
The initiative has been launched by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education to encourage joyful reading and lifelong learning.
Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya focuses on non-academic books and is designed to build reading habits beyond textbooks. The digital library has been carefully organised into four age groups — 3–8 years, 8–11 years, 11–14 years, and 14 years and above. This structure follows the learning approach suggested in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
At present, the platform offers more than 5,500 books from over 200 publishers. These books are available in 23 different languages, making the library accessible to students from diverse backgrounds. The application can be used on web, Android, and iOS platforms.
The digital library has been developed and implemented by the National Book Trust (NBT), India, under the guidance of the Ministry of Education. CBSE has requested schools to use their ICT and smart classroom facilities to register students on the platform and actively promote digital reading.
Teachers are also encouraged to download and explore the application themselves. This will help them guide students better and motivate them to read anytime and anywhere.
According to CBSE, Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya aims to nurture a lifelong love for reading while also promoting India’s rich cultural and literary heritage. The Board has emphasized that the support of schools and teachers is essential to achieve meaningful learning outcomes.
