Delhi Schools New Fee Regulation Bill 2025 Approved! Check How It Will Stop Unfair Fee Hikes
The Delhi Cabinet has approved a crucial draft bill to regulate fees of private and government schools. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the decision at a press conference here. Describing it as a “bold and historic step,” Gupta said the government is committed to protecting the education rights of children and ensuring transparency.
The decision comes at a time when many parents in the capital Delhi have been protesting against the steep hike in school fees. In April 2025, hundreds of parents demonstrated outside the Directorate of Education (DoE) office, demanding an immediate rollback of the fee hike.
Following this, the education department had issued show-cause notices to 11 private schools and action was also initiated separately on complaints of dummy schooling in around 20 schools.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the previous governments had not made any arrangements to check the fee hike. Now strict rules will be implemented to set and increase fees through the new bill. Under this, if a school violates the rules, its management can be taken over by the government.
Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood said that under this bill, a three-tier committee will be formed which will control the fee hike in schools. The 18 provisions in the bill will be reviewed and implemented and the fee will be allowed to increase only once in three years.
Delhi CM Gupta categorically said that no school can harass parents over fees and students can’t be expelled unfairly. It will be mandatory for all schools to follow the prescribed rules, otherwise strict action will be taken.
