Will Tatkal Ticket Booking Timings Change from April 15? Here’s What IRCTC Said
Amid increasing travel during the summer season, several social media posts claimed that the Indian Railways would change the Tatkal ticket booking timings from April 15. In response to these viral messages, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) issued a formal clarification, stating that there has been no change in the booking schedule.
Let’s take a detailed look at the existing Tatkal booking rules, IRCTC’s clarification, and how passengers should plan their travel accordingly.
Did IRCTC Announce Any Changes to Tatkal Booking Timings?
IRCTC has confirmed that there is no change in the booking timings for Tatkal or Premium Tatkal tickets. The corporation addressed the matter on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) in response to the widely circulated posts. IRCTC clearly stated that some social media posts are falsely claiming changes in the booking schedule of Tatkal and Premium Tatkal tickets. However, the timing for booking these tickets remains the same for both AC and Non-AC classes. Additionally, the timing for booking by ticket agents also continues as before.
This clarification was issued to stop the spread of false information and to assure passengers that the official timings remain unchanged.

What Are the Current Tatkal Ticket Booking Timings?
The Tatkal booking schedule remains unchanged, and passengers should continue to follow the existing timings for both AC and Non-AC classes. IRCTC has confirmed that there is no modification in these rules despite the rumours circulating online.
Here are the official Tatkal booking timings:
-
AC Classes (2A, 3A, CC, EC, 3E): Booking starts at 10:00 AM, one day before the date of travel
-
Non-AC Classes (SL, FC, 2S): Booking begins at 11:00 AM, one day before the date of travel
For instance, if a train is scheduled to depart on 2nd August, Tatkal booking for AC classes will be available from 10:00 AM on 1st August, and for Non-AC classes, it will open at 11:00 AM on the same day.
IRCTC has also reminded passengers that these timings apply to both general users and booking agents, and there has been no change or update in this structure.
Can Passengers Still Book Tatkal Tickets One Day Before Travel?
Yes, passengers can continue to book Tatkal tickets one day prior to the journey date. However, bookings can only be made from the originating station of the train. This applies to both confirmed and waitlisted Tatkal tickets.
As per current rules, a maximum of four passengers can be booked under one PNR. Additionally, Tatkal charges are added separately to the base fare. Tickets must be booked through the official IRCTC website or through authorised booking agents only.
What Should Travellers Keep in Mind While Booking Tatkal Tickets?
Travellers should always use the official IRCTC platform or its authorised agents for booking. Booking must be done exactly at the specified times to increase the chance of getting confirmed tickets. It is advisable to have valid identity proof ready and ensure that internet and payment methods are prepared in advance before the booking window opens.
What Is IRCTC’s Message to Passengers?
IRCTC has requested passengers not to believe rumours circulating online. It has clearly stated that there is no change in the booking timings for Tatkal or Premium Tatkal tickets. All the existing rules and timings remain fully valid. This announcement has been made to avoid confusion, maintain transparency, and ensure a smooth booking process for all passengers.
