Ms. Manpreet Kaur, Managing Director of Shaurya International School, shares her vision and insights on education, innovation, and holistic development.
With a strong commitment to nurturing creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration, she has been leading the institution to set high benchmarks in academic excellence and personal growth. In this conversation, she speaks about the school’s vision, implementation of NEP 2020, teacher development, student safety, and inclusivity in learning.
Let’s take a look at her thoughts as she responds to questions on education, innovation, and student development.
1) What is your vision for the school, and how do you ensure it reaches every classroom and child?
Ans: Our goal is to offer this remote area a holistic education with world-class amenities. A school that celebrates the culture of excellence and is an embodiment of values. We believe that a curriculum of excellence with a global dimension is central to the education of children to face the challenges of the 21st century with confidence and strength of character.
We implement a range of strategies, including:
- Providing ongoing teacher training and support to ensure effective implementation of our programs.
- Designing internship programs for senior secondary level classes to inculcate skills.
2) How are you implementing NEP 2020 in day-to-day teaching, especially competency-based and experiential learning?
Ans: We’re implementing NEP 2020 by integrating competency-based and experiential learning into our daily teaching practices. Our teachers design activities that focus on critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving, encouraging students to apply theoretical knowledge in practical, real-world contexts.
Project-based learning, hands-on experiments, and collaborative group work foster deeper understanding and skill development. Technology integration and flexible learning pathways support personalized learning experiences, allowing students to learn at their own pace.
Regular assessments and feedback help track progress and identify areas for improvement. By embedding these approaches into our teaching, we aim to develop well-rounded, curious, and competent learners ready to thrive in the 21st century.
3) What changes have you made in assessments to move beyond rote learning and support real understanding?
Ans: We’ve transformed assessments to prioritize critical thinking, creativity, and application over rote memorization. Our assessments now include project-based evaluations, open-ended questions, and performance tasks that require students to demonstrate their understanding through practical applications.
We’ve also incorporated self-assessment and peer assessment, encouraging students to reflect on their own learning and develop a growth mindset. By focusing on the process of learning rather than just the product, we gauge students’ ability to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information, providing a more comprehensive picture of their knowledge and skills. This approach fosters deeper understanding, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.
4) How do you support teacher growth—through training, feedback, and wellbeing—so that great teaching stays consistent?
Ans: We support teacher growth through a multifaceted approach that prioritizes professional development, constructive feedback, and wellbeing.
Regular training sessions, workshops, and mentorship programs empower teachers to refine their skills, explore innovative pedagogies, and stay updated on best practices. Continuous feedback mechanisms, including peer observations and student feedback, help teachers identify areas for improvement and celebrate successes.
We also prioritize teacher wellbeing, recognizing the importance of their mental and emotional health in delivering great teaching. By fostering a culture of collaboration, support, and growth, we ensure that our teachers feel valued, motivated, and equipped to provide consistently high-quality education.
5) What systems are in place for student wellbeing and safety, including counselling, cyber safety, and child protection?
Ans: Our student wellbeing and safety framework is comprehensive and proactive, featuring trained counsellors who provide emotional support and guidance.
Cyber safety education empowers students to navigate the digital world responsibly, while robust child protection protocols ensure a secure environment. We also have a dedicated team that monitors and responds to potential safety concerns, fostering a culture of trust and care. By prioritizing student wellbeing and safety, we create a nurturing environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
This holistic approach supports students in developing resilience, self-awareness, and healthy relationships, setting them up for long-term success and happiness.
6) How is the school using technology—AI, coding, digital tools—while keeping learning inclusive and balanced?
Ans: Our school harnesses technology to create an immersive and inclusive learning environment. AI-powered adaptive learning platforms personalize lessons to individual needs, while coding classes foster problem-solving skills and creativity.
Digital tools facilitate collaborative projects, virtual field trips, and interactive simulations, making learning engaging and fun. To ensure balance, we prioritize screen-free activities, outdoor learning, and hands-on experiences, promoting holistic development.
Assistive technology supports students with special needs, and digital literacy programs empower students to navigate the online world safely and responsibly. By integrating technology thoughtfully, we prepare students for the digital age while nurturing their social, emotional, and cognitive growth.
7) What steps are you taking to make learning inclusive for children with diverse needs and different learning styles?
Ans: Our school leverages technology to create a dynamic learning environment, integrating AI, coding, and digital tools to enhance engagement and understanding.
AI-powered adaptive learning platforms personalize lessons, while coding classes foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Digital tools facilitate collaborative projects, virtual field trips, and interactive simulations, making learning immersive and fun.
To ensure inclusivity, we provide assistive technology for students with special needs and prioritize digital literacy. By balancing technology use with hands-on activities, outdoor learning, and creative pursuits, we promote holistic development, preparing students for success in the digital age while nurturing their social, emotional, and cognitive growth.
