NCERT launches national training programme to strengthen cyber safety and data protection skills for educators, students and institutions
The Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), NCERT has announced a five-hour online training programme titled “Data Privacy & Protection” to help schools build stronger digital safety practices.
The training programme aims to make teachers, students, parents and administrators aware of the growing risks around online data, and equip them with the skills needed to safeguard personal and institutional information in an increasingly digital world.
In recent years, schools have shifted to digital platforms for storing student records, managing communication, and supporting classroom learning. While these systems offer convenience, they also bring risks such as data leaks, cyber attacks, password misuse, and unauthorized access.
The new training programme has been designed to address these concerns and promote a culture of responsible digital behaviour across educational ecosystems.
Why this training matters
CIET-NCERT explains that cyber incidents like data breaches, ransomware attacks, and unsafe use of mobile applications are becoming more common. When such incidents occur in schools, it affects students, teachers, and entire institutions.
The training will help participants understand how data moves through digital platforms, how information can be stolen or misused, and how simple preventive steps can significantly reduce risks.
The initiative also supports the vision of NEP 2020, which highlights the importance of digital literacy, cyber safety and responsible technology use from early classes to higher education.
What are the main objectives of this training?
The training series will help participants:
- Understand key concepts and challenges in data privacy and protection
- Identify common digital threats and learn how to prevent them
- Promote responsible digital behaviour among students and colleagues
- Review and strengthen school-level data policies and safety practices
- Build a privacy-aware and secure digital environment
Who can participate in the programme?
Anyone who is interested in learning about data privacy and digital safety can join this programme. It is open for students, teachers, parents, school administrators, and other education stakeholders. The aim is to help everyone understand how to protect personal and institutional data in today’s digital world.
