NCERT–CIET to Host Four-Day National Online Training on Using AI to Strengthen Mathematics Learning

New Delhi: The Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), a constituent unit of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), has announced a four-day national online training programme titled “Enhancing Mathematical Competency through AI”, scheduled from January 12 to 15, 2026.

The training initiative is being organised in collaboration with Google for Education and aims to help teachers and learners effectively use artificial intelligence and digital tools to improve mathematics teaching and learning.

Strengthening Mathematics Education Through Technology

CIET stated that the programme is aligned with the vision of India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises the integration of digital technologies at all levels of education to ensure inclusive, equitable, and quality learning.

The training focuses on helping mathematics teachers design competency-based learning experiences, identify student learning gaps, and adopt digital platforms for assessment and feedback.

The institute highlighted that digital platforms such as DIKSHA (One Nation, One Digital Platform) and ePathshala already host extensive learning resources across Indian languages and school stages. This training will further support educators in using these platforms more effectively.

Live Sessions and Open Access

Each daily session will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM and will be live-streamed via NCERT’s official YouTube channel (NCERTOFFICIAL) as well as the PM eVidya DTH TV channels. According to CIET, the sessions will include expert presentations and demonstrations, ensuring that participants from across the country can access the programme without cost.

  • Using AI to identify misconceptions and learning outcomes in mathematics
  • Designing diagnostic assessments to detect learning gaps
  • Creating visual and digital content for concept clarification
  • Applying differentiated instruction through digital platforms

Academic and Organisational Leadership

The programme is being guided by senior academic leadership from CIET-NCERT. The organisers stated that the initiative reflects CIET’s ongoing mandate to expand educational opportunities, promote equity, and enhance the quality of school education through technology-enabled solutions.

Why This Matters (In Simple Terms)

In simple terms, this training helps teachers use AI and digital tools to understand where students struggle in mathematics, improve teaching methods, and make learning more engaging and personalised. For students, it means clearer explanations, better support, and improved learning outcomes. For schools, it supports the national goal of modern, technology-enabled education.
