Delhi to Introduce AI Literacy Curriculum for Classes 6 to 10 Starting May 8
Artificial Intelligence is going to become a part of school education in Delhi. From May 8, 2025, students from Classes 6 to 10 will get to study a new AI-based course. This course is being launched under the name AI Samarth. It has been developed by the Central Square Foundation (CSF) in partnership with the Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI at IIT-Madras.
This will help students and schools in different states easily understand the course. It will also make sure that no student is left behind just because of language problems.
Students will learn the basics of Artificial Intelligence. They will understand how AI works in daily life, like how they get suggestions online, how face recognition works, or how voice assistants help. The course will explain the main ideas of AI and how to use it carefully and correctly. It will also teach how AI affects our society, how it can be helpful in many areas, and what problems it can cause.
What is the goal of this new AI Samarth curriculum?
The main goal of the AI Samarth curriculum is to spread awareness about Artificial Intelligence in a practical and easy-to-understand manner. It focuses on both students and teachers so that learning becomes more effective. This framework will help create a strong base in AI by explaining how it can be used safely, ethically, and responsibly in real life. It aims to build curiosity among students while making sure they understand the positive and negative effects of using AI.
How many languages will the curriculum be available in?
To make sure more students benefit from this initiative, the course will be available in five languages—Hindi, English, Marathi, Bengali, and Odia. In the coming six months, more regional languages will also be added. This will make the content more accessible for schools across different states, ensuring that no child is left behind due to language barriers.
What will students actually learn through this curriculum?
Students will get a basic understanding of Artificial Intelligence. They will learn how AI is being used in their daily lives, such as through online recommendations, facial recognition, or digital assistants. The course will introduce the main concepts of AI and teach how to use AI tools responsibly. It will also explain the social impact of AI—how it can help in many fields, and what challenges come with it. Topics like ethics, privacy, bias, and accountability will also be explained in a simple way.
How will the content be shared with students and teachers?
The course will be available online so that it can be accessed by schools, teachers, and students easily. Along with course material, special training modules will also be given to teachers to help them teach this new subject. These modules will include real-life examples, activities, and video content. Teachers will be trained in a way that they feel confident while explaining complex AI topics in simple language to their students.
What makes this curriculum different from others?
This framework is designed to be flexible. Schools can change the depth and coverage of topics based on their own needs and the learning level of their students. It is not a fixed syllabus but a guide that schools can adapt. Whether the school is in a metro city or a rural area, this course will be useful and easy to follow. The course also keeps in mind that teachers may not be fully aware of AI, which is why proper support and training are part of the plan.
This is a big and positive step in India’s education journey. With the launch of AI Samarth, Delhi students will get a chance to stay ahead in a world that is quickly moving toward technology. The curriculum is made to be engaging, informative, and safe for students, and it is expected to create a new generation that understands Artificial Intelligence not just as a subject, but as a useful life skill.
