From May 1, ATM Cash Withdrawals Will Cost More – Check New Charges for HDFC, SBI, ICICI and Others
If you use ATMs regularly, be ready for a small shock from May 1. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has changed the ATM transaction rules. After your free ATM limit is over, you will now have to pay more for every extra withdrawal. Many big banks including HDFC Bank, PNB, IndusInd Bank, and Yes Bank have already updated these charges.
Let us tell you how many free transactions you get, and how much you’ll be charged after that. These new charges apply from May 1, 2025.
How many ATM transactions are free per month?
RBI has fixed a limit on the number of free ATM transactions every month. These include both financial and non-financial transactions.
Customers can make 5 free ATM transactions every month at their own bank’s ATM, which includes both financial and non-financial transactions.
For other bank ATMs, the number of free transactions depends on the location:
- In metro cities, customers can avail 3 free transactions per month.
- In non-metro areas, the limit is 5 free transactions per month.
Once you cross this free limit, the new charges will apply.
What is the new charge after the free limit?
As per RBI’s guideline, banks can now charge up to ₹23 per transaction after the free limit is crossed. These charges are for both financial (cash withdrawal) and non-financial (balance check etc.) transactions. Also, GST will be charged separately.
Let’s now look at how different banks have updated their ATM charges:
What are the new ATM charges from May 1, 2025?
Bank | After Free Limit (Financial Txn) | Non-Financial Txn | Effective From |
