Baalpan ki Kavita: Govt Launches National Rhyme and Poem Competition for Young Learners

Ministry of Education and MyGov Invite Citizens to Create Rhymes for India’s Children

The Ministry of Education, in partnership with MyGov, has launched a unique national initiative called “Baalpan ki Kavita”. This competition invites individuals to submit Bharatiya rhymes and poems that can support joyful and meaningful learning for children in the foundational years.

This initiative has been inspired by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which highlights the importance of learning in one’s home language or mother tongue. As mentioned in NEP para 4.11, young children can understand complex ideas more easily when taught in familiar languages.

However, many preschool and early primary children in India currently grow up learning English rhymes that often feel disconnected from their culture.

The Baalpan ki Kavita competition is a step to bridge this gap. It encourages the revival and creation of rhymes in Hindi, regional Indian languages, and even English, but rooted in Indian culture and everyday life. These poems will be used to make early learning more engaging, playful, and culturally relevant.

CBSE Also Issues Circular to Support the Initiative

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has also extended full support to the competition. In its circular, CBSE has urged all affiliated schools to promote this initiative.

Schools have been requested to inform their students and encourage them to take part in the contest. CBSE has highlighted the importance of reviving the magic of rhymes and poems in mother tongue and regional languages for making learning more joyful.

Complete details and the participation link are available on the official MyGov portal. The Baalpan ki Kavita competition is open until 22 April 2025.

What Kind of Rhymes Can Be Submitted?

Participants are encouraged to send rhymes or poems that relate to nature, animals, birds, festivals, family, community helpers, patriotism, food, seasons, water, sports, and other elements of daily life.

The content should be joyful, easy to recite, and interesting for children. The rhyme length should be 30 to 100 words or 4 to 12 lines, making it simple enough for children between ages 3 and 8 to remember and enjoy.

Entries can be original or based on folk rhymes, traditional songs, or popular local verses. If the rhyme is already written by someone else, the name of the original creator should be mentioned.

Who Can Participate in Baalpan ki Kavita competition?

Anyone with a passion for poetry or education can take part. This includes parents, teachers, writers, storytellers, and community artists.

The categories are divided as per age groups:

  • Balvatika/Preschool (3–6 years)
  • Grade 1 (6–7 years)
  • Grade 2 (7–8 years)

Where and How to Submit?

Participants must register and submit their entries through the MyGov Innovate India platform [https://innovateindia.mygov.in].

There is no entry fee to participate. New users must fill out their basic profile information including name, email, and contact details before submitting.

Submissions are open from 26 March 2025 to 22 April 2025. Entries received after the deadline will not be considered.

Selection and Recognition

All entries will be reviewed by an expert committee to ensure that the content is age-appropriate, educationally sound, and culturally sensitive. Rhymes selected through this process will be published on official educational portals such as NCERT, CBSE, SCERTs, KVS, NVS, and DoSE&L.

The winners will receive:

  • A certificate of contribution
  • An appropriate cash reward
  • National recognition by the Ministry of Education

This is a valuable opportunity to preserve Indian oral traditions and also enrich early learning content for millions of young children.

A Cultural Mission for Early Education

The Baalpan ki Kavita initiative is not just a competition. It is a cultural movement to bring children closer to their roots through language and rhythm.

The organisers believe that simple and meaningful rhymes in Indian languages can shape young minds, promote creativity, and build a strong cultural foundation during the foundational years.

So if you write, sing, or compose rhymes that make children smile and think, this is your chance. Join the mission. Let your rhyme become a part of a child’s first learning memory.
